I wanted to take the theme of this exhibit literally. Many travelers from surrounding cities, towns and hamlets have experienced this beautiful gateway which crosses the Merrimack River. It is one of Haverhill's historical landmarks and an original architectural masterpiece. From the moment I saw her noble towers and graceful archways, she called me to paint her.
